Wolf, Corbett Cross Paths for 1st Time
June 12, 2014
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Democratic gubernatorial
candidate Tom Wolf promised an environmental group that he would launch a third
round of the state's "Growing Greener" program if he is elected.
Republican Gov. Tom Corbett told the same
organization Wednesday night that the state needs to balance environmental concerns
with economic development.
The men spoke to the Pennsylvania
Environmental Council in Philadelphia. It was their first joint appearance
during the campaign.
Wolf didn't say how he'd pay for the
"Growing Greener" program, which has funded a variety of cleanup and
land improvement projects. He also proposed a "responsible and
reasonable" severance tax on natural gas extraction.
The governor says Pennsylvania has made much
progress remediating past environmental sins, but still has much more to do.
