DASD Educators, Support People of the Year

DuBOIS Ė Eight educators and eight support people were nominated for the 2013-14 DuBois Area School District Superintendentís Award as Exemplary Educator and Exemplary Support Person of the Year. They were nominated by an administrator who was asked to write a one-page letter of recommendation as to why they exemplify criteria based on the districtís mission statement and the districtís strategic goals.

The winners of the Educator of the Year Award were Sandra Gett, speech/language instructor at C.G. Johnson, Luthersburg and Sykesville elementary schools, and fifth-grade teacher Lisa Reigel of Penfield Elementary School. Other nominees for the award included Mary Baker of Sykesville Elementary School, Ann Buzzell of DuBois Area Middle School, Lindsay Colbey of Juniata Elementary School, Eloise Rice of Luthersburg Elementary School, Andrea Slattery of Wasson Elementary School, and Cathy Solida of DuBois Area High School.

The winners of the Support Person of the Year Award were Marian Douthit of Sykesville Elementary School and Norma Whelpley of Juniata Elementary School. Other nominees for the award were Vonnie Centra of Wasson Elementary School, Jody Kalgren of Oklahoma Elementary School, Jennifer Lettie of DuBois Area High School, Denise McGarvey of Jeff Tech School, Germaine McGranor of C.G. Johnson Elementary School, and Kathy Smith of DuBois Area Middle School.

All winners and nominees received a plaque, a certificate stating why there were nominated and a planter on behalf of the school district. All winners will be recognized at the school board work session in June.
