Asian Restaurants Raided
June 13, 2014
STATE COLLEGE- Federal immigration officials are calling a series
of raids in state college yesterday a
targeted enforcement operation. In the morning the Department of Homeland
Security agents, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, Pennsylvania
Attorney General's agents and local police officers raided primarily Asian
restaurants and closed them.
People in many of the restaurants were detained and taken away by
agents. Officials said some of the
people detained had problems with immigration paperwork, but specific details
about why people were detained were not available. U.S. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement Public Affairs Specialist Nicole A. Navas said the operations were
targeting specific locations.
Some of the restaurants reopened Thursday afternoon.
