Gov: I've Never Condemned Paterno, 'never
June 27, 2014
HARRISBURG (AP) — Pennsylvania's
governor says he's never condemned the late Penn State coach Joe Paterno for
his actions regarding now-convicted child sex abuser Jerry Sandusky, and he
Gov. Tom Corbett also told The Associated
Press in an interview Thursday that he regrets that the Penn State board
decided to fire Paterno by phone rather than in person.
The Republican governor says he doesn't think
his response to the scandal has hurt him politically.
Corbett was a voting member of the Penn State
board in 2011 when Sandusky was arrested and two university administrators were
charged with covering up complaints about the former assistant football coach.
Corbett said he counseled the board to
remember Sandusky's victims as they decided how to respond to the scandal.
