Penn State to Ask State for More Money

STATE COLLEGE - Penn State plans to ask for a 3 percent increase in state appropriations from the legislature for the next fiscal year. President Rodney Erickson says the increase would amount to a $10.6 million increase to bring the appropriations level to $289.5 million. Currently, state appropriations make up about 6 percent of Penn State''s budget of roughly $4.3 billion, and that share has slowly declined in recent years.

 
Trustees Will Not Examine Freeh Report

STATE COLLEGE - The head of Penn State''s board of trustees says the board isn''t planning a detailed review of the school''s internal investigation into the Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal. Former FBI director Louis Freeh led the school''s investigation. Trustee chairwoman Karen Peetz said Friday that the board is focused on implementing changes recommended by Freeh, but it did not plan a detailed review of the report itself. She said that would take its course in upcoming trials or other legal channels.

 
Vote on Penn State Child Care Center Postponed

STATE COLLEGE - Penn State trustees have called off a vote on renaming a campus child care center that currently bears the name of a former school administrator awaiting trial on charges he lied to a grand jury about child sex abuse allegations against Jerry Sandusky. The board decided against the vote Friday after a handful of trustees questioned the timing of changing the name or voiced concern over whether it might unduly influence Gary Schultz''s trial in January.

 
Two Inmates Charged in Brawl

PINE CREEK TOWNSHIP - Charges of harassment were filed against two inmates at the Jefferson County Jail Wednesday. 52 year old Sandra Dinger of Bradford and 34 year old Rebecca Siceloff of Punxsutawney were engaged in an argument, which escalated into a physical altercation where the two women punched each other in the face multiple times. The incident ended when Dinger was removed from the cell by jail staff.

 
Assault in Philipsburg Results in Charges

DECATUR TOWNSHIP - A Philipsburg man was charged with simple assault after an incident Thursday in Decatur Township, Clearfield County. According to reports, 59 year old Clifford Breon broke two wooden chairs over the back of an unnamed 50 year old man, also from Philipsburg. The incident happened at a location on old Route 322.
