BROCKWAY - Brockway Council welcomed three new part-time police officers at its regular meeting last night. The three officers given the oath of office include Jason McDermott, Tammy Murray and Zane Rhed. All three will work under the direction of police Chief Terry Young. After the officers were sworn in, council then approved a new service agreement with the Brockway Area School District, in which the police department will provide security at all school extracurricular events.
Pending approval of a few contract revisions, council also approved a new tax collection agreement with Berkheimer Associates. Berkheimer will replace Centax in collecting the borough's Local Services Tax, and its delinquent per capita and occupational tax. According to deputy Solicitor Ross Ferraro, Berkheimer provides the borough a more favorable collection rate fee of 2.05%.
Finally, council announced that Halloween trick or treating in the borough this year will be held on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 3-6 pm.
