SANDY TOWNSHIP - At last night's meeting of the Sandy Township Supervisor's, Township
manager Dick Castonguay told supervisors that a request was received from the
family of Cpl. John l. Loweranitis about naming an intersection in his memory.
After talking to State Representative Matt
Gabler, the possibility of the intersection of
U.S. Routes 119 and 219 near Murray Ford was
suggested and met with mixed reactions. Also, Fire Chief Bill Beers Jr. said
the Fire Department has received a donation from the Dori Cooke family of
Michigan; the donation will be utilized within the Fire Department. Cooke was
in an accident on interstate 80 in 2010, where the entire fire department
responded. Lastly, supervisor Dave Sylvis
reminded residents to shovel out fire hydrants near their homes so they accessible to fire crews.
He also said residents need to have address numbers on their homes and make
sure all snow is cleared from the numbers so they are visible.
