Brookville Council on Grass Cutting Ordinance
Brookville Council on Grass Cutting Ordinance
Wednesday, June 19, 2013
BROOKVILLE - Brookville council last night agreed to take action against homeowners violating one of the borough's property codes. Council has had a re-occurring problem with residents violating the borough's grass cutting ordinance. Grass on some individual properties is at knee length and has become an eyesore in the borough, including those on Western Avenue, west main and at the corner of Maple and Race Street. The problem comes up every year, but issuing citations doesn't seem to help as many of the violators seem to ignore them.  Council president john Blazosky said the matter will now be taken up by the borough solicitor. One option under consideration is hiring an outside contractor to cut the grass and billing the property owner. However there may be opposition to that method because of the burden in using taxpayer money to cut private property.  In other business, following an executive session for personnel, council approved hiring Larry drake of Shippenville as a new part-time police officer. Drake will also do k-9 work using his own personally trained police dog.
