Repeat Offender Faces up to 50 Years in Prison

Saturday, July 13, 2013
HARRISBURG - A convicted sex offender will spend the next 25 to 50 years in state prison for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a Harrisburg area community college student less than a week after his release from prison for similar crimes.  Investigators said fifty-three year-old Clarence Shaffer abducted an eighteen year-old woman at gunpoint from the school parking lot in December and took her to a wooded area, where he kicked, choked and sexually assaulted her. She escaped after he lowered his gun.  Shaffer pleaded guilty Friday to charges including kidnapping, involuntary deviate sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and terroristic threats.  He was released from prison four days before the December abduction, after serving his maximum 14-year sentence for the kidnapping and attempted sexual assault of a college student in the 1990s.
