Purple Heart Returned to Hero's Family
August 13, 2013
Westover, PA- A Purple Heart medal that was found in a western New York Goodwill store will soon be among the family of the World War II soldier who earned it.

The metal with a photo of Pvt. James Roland was found in June. Goodwill posted on Facebook to find the owner, which inspired Linda Hastreiter  from the Patriot Guard Riders, to search for a family member. She found a distant cousin the Mayor of Westover Mary Roland Struble.

Today, Goodwill will give the medal to the Patriot Guard. Riders on motorcycles will escort it from DuBois, to the cemetery on Saturday and present it to Struble at Roland's gravesite in Westover.

Roland was killed in Anzio, Italy in 1944.
