Sleep Center Receives Accreditation
Regional Medical Center Sleep Disorders Center in DuBois recently received
program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, or AASM.
Regional Medical Center Sleep Disorders Center is directed by Dr. Angelo
Illuzzi. It treats all patients with sleep disorders, including patients of the
Sleep Disorders Lab at DRMC West. This includes diagnoses such as obstructive
sleep apnea, central sleep apnea, complex sleep apnea, Cheyne-Stokes breathing,
narcolepsy, periodic limb movements of sleep, restless leg syndrome,
parasomnias, circadian rhythm disorders and insomnia.
AASM accreditation is a testament to the dedication of the entire Sleep
Medicine staff and DRMC to treating these common disorders and improving the
health and quality of life of our patients,” Illuzzi said.
American Academy of Sleep Medicine is a professional medical society for
clinicians, researchers, and other health care providers in the field of sleep
medicine and is the national accrediting body for sleep disorders centers.
accreditation for a five-year period, a sleep center must meet or exceed all
standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. These standards address core areas such as
personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition,
patient care and quality assurance. Additionally, the sleep center’s goals must be clearly stated and
include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the
community it serves.

from sleep disorders.”
