Bridges Construction update

August 22, 2013
Work to rehabilitate two bridges on Route 255 in Huston Township that was to start the week of Aug. 12, is now set to begin next week. Once work begins, traffic will be reduced to one lane, with an alternating traffic pattern controlled by temporary traffic signals. The first bridge is over Bennett Branch about two miles southwest of Penfield. The second bridge spans Heath Run about three miles southwest of Penfield. Both bridges were built in 1930 and carry over 6,000 vehicles each day. These bridges are the first two of five Clearfield County bridges on a $1.8 million rehabilitation contract. When work is complete, PennDOT will remove the bridges from the Clearfield County structurally deficient list.
PennDOT plans to open a bridge over Stump Creek on Route 2003 (Mine Road) near Helvetia on Friday. The bridge was closed July 26 to allow for crews from PennDOT's Clearfield County Maintenance office to replace the structure with a new box culvert.  Once the new bridge is open to traffic, PennDOT will lift the detour that has been in place.
Work to remove and replace a railroad crossing on Route 3006 (Bridge Street) in Westover Borough will take place Wednesday Sept 4 and Thursday Sept 5,  Crews from RJ Corman Railroad Company will be working to remove the existing railroad-crossing surface and rebuild the structure through the crossing. There will be a nine-mile detour in place and drivers will use Route 36 (Main Street/ Colonel Drake Highway), Route 3014 (North Camp Road), and Route 3003 (Punkin Ridge Road) to get around the closure. Local drivers familiar with the area may choose to use alternate routes.
