Senate Transportation Bill
September 24, 2013
HARRISBURG- Pennsylvania House Majority Leader Mike Turzai says he's pushing for a floor vote in his chamber on a $2.5 billion transportation plan that passed the state Senate by an overwhelming majority.
Turzai said Monday that he'd hold the vote because Gov. Tom Corbett asked for it. However, his spokeswoman Lynn Lawson says Corbett wants action on a transportation bill, but didn't specifically ask for a vote on the Senate bill.
Corbett has never said he supported the Senate bill and Turzai, of Allegheny County, has criticized it as too expensive and unsupportable by the more conservative House GOP majority.
Corbett issued a less-expensive plan that didn't get traction in the Legislature. The Senate's transportation bill is also supported by business groups and labor unions, as well as House Democrats.
