Homemade explosive launched in central Pa.

October 15, 2013
CHAMBERSBURG- Police in central Pennsylvania are trying to find out who is behind creating a homemade explosive that was launched into the air over the weekend.

Chambersburg police said they received numerous reports of an explosion at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Police officers who responded to the scene found remnants of a large PVC-type pipe that was used to launch a mortar-type round.

Parts of the item that exploded were located on the roof of a nearby building.

Police said homes in the area could have potentially ignited by falling debris and whoever set off the device risked being severely hurt or killed. Investigators are asking anyone who might have information about the explosive to contact Chambersburg police.
