Pa. Liquor Board OKs Tavern Gambling License

Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania liquor regulators are giving their permission for the
first license for a tavern in the state to operate small games of chance.
Liquor Control Board voted Wednesday to award a tavern gambling license to
Midway Tavern in Hanover.
bar's owners must pay a $2,000 fee before they'll be allowed to run the games,
which include pull tabs, daily drawings and charitable raffles.
tavern licenses were authorized by a state law enacted in November, and state
officials have projected they will bring in about $100 million in the coming
however, only 10 applications have been filed. State budget analysts had
expected that about 2,000 bar owners would get licenses, based on the
experience of Indiana.
