Safety Changes in Brockway

March 12, 2014- John Pozza
BROCKWAY- The Brockway Area School Board learned last night the district will be awarded a Safe Schools Grant to improve school security. The $25,000 grant, among other things, will be used to install new outdoor LED lighting around the elementary and high schools.

School superintendent Dan Hawkins said the new lighting will not only increase security but save on energy costs. The grant will also help pay for new security cameras both inside and outside each school building.

In other business, the board approved changes to the required graduation projects for seniors, effective for the 2015 graduating class. Also approved was Brockway's share of the Jeff Tech Operating Budget for next year, which is nearly 8 percent lower than this year's budget.

The Board also announced its plan to close out the school year providing no further days are cancelled due to weather conditions. April 18 and 21 are vacation days for Easter.  The last day of school for non-graduates will be Tuesday, June 3. The Baccalaureate Service will be Sunday, May 18, the Senior Awards Assembly will be on Thursday, May 29 and Graduation will follow on Friday, May 30 at 7 p.m.
