CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., announced Clearfield County's Fugitive of the Week; Edward Matthew Schmidt, age 33, of Patton Street, Clearfield, Pennsylvania.

Shaw stated that Schmidt is wanted for failure to appear at Plea and Sentencing Court on February 25, 2014.

On September 26, 2013, Patrolman Elliot Neeper of the Lawrence Township Police Department, filed a Criminal Complaint charging Schmidt with: 1) Theft of Leased Property, M2; and 2) Receiving Stolen Property, M2.

An Affidavit of Probable Cause filed by Patrolman Neeper states that on September 11, 2013, the Lawrence Township Police Department received a report of theft of leased property from a business located on Daisy Street, Clearfield. Upon investigation it was found that Schmidt had leased merchandise from the business but failed to make approximately $472.64 worth of payments for the item. Schmidt failed to return the property to the business and failed to pay the outstanding balance for the device. 

A Preliminary Hearing was scheduled for November 6, 2013, at which time all charges were held for Court. On February 25, 2014, Schmidt failed to appear at Plea and Sentencing Court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Schmidt is described as A white male 5'8" with blue eyes and brown hair.
