Full 10-digit 814 area code dialing starts this Saturday

Presented by Tri-County Insider

Clearfield County, PA – Starting this Saturday, April 3, you’ll have to dial the full 10-digit phone number for 814 area codes, even if you are calling from the same area code.

Believe it or not, we’re running out of numbers in the 814 area code, so a new “overlay” area code will eventually be used in addition to the current 814 area code… 582.

The new 582 numbers will be used once the 814 numbers are exhausted.

So in preparation for that new area code overlay, starting this Saturday, you’ll have to dial the full 10-digit number, even if you are calling an 814 number from another 814 number.

Because most people have numbers saved in their phones instead of physically dialing them each time, this means you’ll want to go through your cell phone’s contact list and make sure that each 814 number actually has the area code in front of it.

You’ll want to do the same for any life alert and medical alert system, alarm systems, voicemail services, internet dial-up, and any other device that can save and automatically dial numbers.

Listen to the 814 reminder interview with Rep. Mike Armanini, a Republican serving Clearfield and Elk Counties.
