Local Fire Depts. to receive grant money

More than $762,000 in grant money was awarded to 122 rural fire departments across Pennsylvania Tuesday to help protect communities from wildfires.

The Volunteer Fire Assistance Grants will be given to local departments in rural areas and communities with a population less than 10,000 people.

The funding is intended to be used to help train fire fighters and buy equipment for fighting brush and forest fires.

Fire Departments in the Tri-County will receive over $50,000 of that total, including:

Reynoldsville and Pine Creek Township Volunteer Fire Companies each receiving $12,500; Penfield Volunteer Fire Company receiving $8,000; Clearfield Volunteer Fire Company receiving $2,135; Houtzdale Volunteer Fire Company receiving $6,250; and both Big Run Volunteer Fire Company and Central Fire Department in Jefferson County receiving $3,000 each. The Perry Township Volunteer Fire Company in Jefferson County will received $2,500.
