Priority First Federal Credit Union Community Spotlight Recipient for the Month of September is the T.E.D.E Foundation.
The T.E.D.E. Foundation, spearheaded by Valerie and Mike Day in honor of their daughter Thea Evenzie Day, is making a remarkable impact in the Dubois community. Their dedication to improving the lives of individuals with special needs is both inspiring and transformative.
Rett Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that Thea lives with, often leaves those affected non-verbal, making communication a significant challenge. The T.E.D.E. Foundation, named after Thea, has become a beacon of hope and change for many in the community. Their current initiatives include the installation of communication boards in local parks, a crucial step towards enhancing accessibility and communication for individuals with special needs.
In addition to the communication boards, the Foundation is also working on fundraising for more adaptive play equipment and adult changing tables in public restrooms. These efforts aim to create a more inclusive and accommodating environment for everyone, ensuring that individuals of all ages and abilities can enjoy public spaces comfortably and with dignity.
The Foundation’s work is not just about providing physical resources but also about raising awareness for Rett Syndrome and advocating for those who are often overlooked. Their collaboration with the City of Dubois to introduce inclusive equipment and facilities highlights a strong community commitment to accessibility and support for special needs families.
Thea Day, the heart of this foundation, symbolizes the joy and resilience that the Foundation aims to spread. By shining a light on the challenges faced by those with Rett Syndrome and other special needs, the T.E.D.E. Foundation is helping to create a more empathetic and supportive community. Their efforts deserve recognition and praise for their significant contributions towards a more inclusive future for all.
