Priority First FCU April Community Spotlight

Presented by Priority Media
CLEARFIELD–The Chemo Care Bag Project began in 2015 as a tribute to Chauncey and Lynn Smith, each having passed from cancer. They are our April Priority First Federal Credit Union Community Spotlight Cares Advertising Grant recipients.  To memorialize their well-lived lives, their daughter Kristen Zurat started this campaign by asking supporters to sponsor a cinch-sac bag for $25. That bag then is filled with items that are helpful to those going through cancer treatment and hopefully, provide some level of comfort.

This campaign has continued to grow each year and our goals continue to rise. In our first year we delivered 25 bags to one treatment center.  In January 2023 over 500 bags were made and deliveries have been made to 4 treatment centers and we plan to have another delivery in the next few weeks. We have provided over 1,800 care bags since our inception!

The campaign is now a year-round project with a second round of bag delivery is planned for the fall.  It is our hope that the Chemo Care Bags will let the recipients know that they are being thought of and prayed for during their medical treatment.

Some items included in the bags are: hats, blankets, tissues, puzzles, pens, hand sanitizer, gum, gummy bears, water, crackers, lotion, lip balm, note pads, and devotionals.  We are blessed to have great community support through corporate sponsorship and individual help with most of our hats being donated by crochet/knitting groups and individuals all over the country!

Some of the facilities that they assist include:

Nathaniel D Yingling Cancer Center, Clearfield, PA
Hahne Regional Cancer Center, DuBois, PA
Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford, PA
Ortenzio Cancer Center, Mechanicsburg, PA
North Barry Street Health Center, Olean, NY
UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, Altoona, PA
