2020 Fair Season Cancelled

SHARE NOW

Sykesville, PA – The Sykesville Ag & Youth Fair announced on Friday that the Fair, scheduled for August 10 to 15 has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 Disaster Emergency.

The Fair organization made an announcement stating, “The health and safety of our volunteers, exhibitors, vendors, carnival employees, entertainers, and our community is our main priority. Government restrictions on the size of gatherings and the safety requirements to safely allow attendance at the fair would make the operation of our fair nearly impossible.”

There is still a limit of 250 people for large gatherings in Pennsylvania, and the fair regularly exceeds that.

Please watch for information regarding the 2021 Sykesville Ag & Youth Fair.

Clearfield and Jefferson Counties, PA – News broke over the weekend that, adding to the long list of summer events that won’t take place, the Sykesville Ag and Youth Fair has been canceled.

Many other seasonal celebrations have already been announced as canceled, including both the Clearfield County Fair and Jefferson County Fair, the Brockway Old-Fashioned 4th of July, and DuBois Community Days.

Although we are all disappointed, please remember that these were not easy decisions for the fair boards to make.

Remember that, in addition to trying to keep everyone safe, these boards also have to consider the act that there could be legal ramifications if they remained open, that they could have issues with getting the proper insurance, and that other companies that they usually partner with (such as carnival and food services, bands, and other entertainment) have their own rules and might not have been able to come to these fairs anyway.

Keep in mind that many of these events are still having some of their traditions, just maybe held in a different way. For example, Brockway is still having their fireworks on the 4th of July. Jefferson County Fair is still going to trying to hold livestock shows for kids. Although the large summer gathering themselves might not happen, smaller events are still being planned throughout the year.
