The Randy Carlson Memorial (Tournament) has been named the April Priority First FCU Community Spotlight Recipient.
The Randy Carlson Memorial Tournament is a benefit hockey tournament held annually in May. Originally played at the Reynoldsville Rollerdrome, the tournament is now held at the outdoor rink in Brockway. The tournament began as a way to remember former XHL player Randy Carlson, who passed away from melanoma in 2004. This year’s event will benefit two local residents battling cancer: Melissa Wayne and Alex London.
The first two tournaments in 2005 and 2006 were meant to remember Randy Carlson and bring awareness to cancer. Thanks to some recommendations from participants, the event began to raise money for charity in 2010.
Since that time, the tournament has raised over $38,000. That money has been donated to several local individuals and families who are battling cancer, to groups like the American Cancer Society, and even to the Hahne Regional Cancer Center in DuBois.
