Harrisburg, PA – Some families are protesting today across the street from the DuBois Middle School on Liberty Boulevard, as kids are back to wearing masks in school again.
Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf gave the mandate for all schools in the state with guidelines that everyone over the age of 2, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a mask while indoors at any learning facility.
However, it realistically comes down to the schools themselves to actually enforce the mandate.
At the DuBois Area School District, the school administrators plan to only allow students to forgo a mask if they have a medical exemption signed by a doctor.
Plans are in place for how DASD will respond to maskless students. They will first be offered a mask, then a face shield. The student’s guardian will be called to discuss the importance of the student being in school and any accommodations that could be made. If the student and their family refuse, the student will then need to be picked up from school.
It’s bound to be a day filled with strong emotions and confusion as the first day back with masks plays out in schools around the state. Please be patient and treat each other respectfully, regardless of what your opinion might be.
